Applicants for transfer to the College of Engineering must complete all basic preparation courses required to be eligible for admission. Unfortunately, UC does not maintain articulation agreements of four-year institutions or community colleges outside of California. Students are responsible for finding courses that they believe are equivalent to those listed below. The College of Engineering evaluates the transfer institution`s courses on a case-by-case basis only after admission. Once you are admitted to our program, you will be asked to submit all relevant programs for review by our faculty. Unfortunately, we cannot guarantee that classes will be articulated at UC Berkeley. It is possible to transfer to the CS program of another college or major on campus. Many of our students are also pursuing a second major. For students pursuing other majors, we also offer an EECS minor, a CS minor, and an EIS minor. 1.
It is very rare for us to accept a course offered elsewhere as a replacement for CS 61A or 61C. We do not accept bank transfer credits for CS 70. Please read our detailed syllabi before revising a course to meet these requirements. Here are some of the highlights: Please note that the University of California gives California community college students priority over other transfer applicants. Students who wish to transfer to UC Berkeley from another school will be considered taking into account their personal circumstances and availability of places. Transfer students are not admitted by institutions abroad, unless they have since attended a national institution. A strong background in mathematics and physics (engineering courses at UC Berkeley are strictly to say the least) Admission to different UC sites and majors varies in competitiveness depending on the number of students applied for and the number of places available. As a result, minimum GPA and grading requirements for some courses may vary from campus to campus. Be sure to check campus admissions websites to find the minimum grade point averages expected for the major you`re interested in.
As a transfer candidate, you are competing with a smaller but more “impressive” pool of students for a limited number of places. In this guide, we share the minimum (as well as “nice to have”) requirements as a transfer requester at UC Berkeley. You will also have the opportunity to complete the Intersegmental General Education Transfer Program (IGETC) to meet the general education requirements of the lower classes of each UC campus. Full sequences can take two to four semesters to complete (depending on whether your institution has semesters or terms), so you should start them early. To check which of your community college courses meet the expectations of pathways courses in multiple UC locations, see the UC Transfer Pathways Guide for a summary list. Use ASSIST to find specific courses offered at your community college that meet the expected performance on a particular UC campus. In addition to the above course achievements, you must meet the minimum requirements expected of all candidates for transfer to UC. These sample programs for incoming transfer students will help guide you through your years at Berkeley. Keep in mind that these are just examples of programs that will be used when planning your own schedule.
Some courses can also be taken during Berkeley`s summer sessions to meet key CS prerequisites, so you can apply for the major earlier. (For more information, see Apply for the major.) Tina Taleb, EECS Junior Undergraduate Transfer, discusses her project at the SUPERBE/URISE REU 2018 poster session You should expect your first semester to be spent meeting technical requirements that you might not be able to meet at your community college. Most students start in CS61A. For more examples, see Sample Plans. Welcome to Computer Science at Berkeley, new transfer students! Whether you`re just starting your transfer journey to community college or you`re in your freshman semester at UC Berkeley, we`re here to help. Resources and information can be found below. For more information on admission to transfer, visit the College of Engineering Prospective Transfer website or email esstransferadmissions@berkeley.edu Yes, see Examples. The more courses you have taken before changing, the more likely you are to graduate in 2 years. You may want to take a course in the summer before starting in the fall. The following majors in L&S share the technical requirements of the lower division and/or some of the CS courses of the upper division over the main requirements: If you`re working at your community college on an Associate for Transfer (ADT) degree in computer science, there`s a lot of overlap with the UC Transfer Pathway courses. The difference between what CPUs expect and what an ADT requires is multivariate calculus, linear algebra, and differential equations.
